Introduction to Ceramics Workshop for Artists – modeling and finishing of ceramic pieces
with Henrique Detomi
March 16th and 30th (Saturdays)
Hours: 2pm to 6pm
This workshop is dedicated to artists or those interested in learning the basic precepts for the practice of non-utilitarian ceramics. During the workshop, participants will produce their own pieces in clay and apply glazes to complete the piece.
During the process the piece is fired twice. The workshop will be organized in two meetings of four (4) hours each. In the first, there will be a theoretical initial moment addressing technical characteristics of ceramics and introducing artistic ceramics, and then, the participant will learn several modeling techniques, allowing the creation of their own ceramic pieces. The second meeting will take place after the piece goes through the first firing, then the participant will learn techniques for finishing the piece using ceramic glazes that give shine and color to the piece.
At the end of the second meeting, the second firing will take place and the piece can be removed the following week.
